Community Programs & Activities
Edgemere Community Development Corporation Programs and Activities are designed to promote resident participation and neighborhood involvement. We provide the tools and opportunities that support community members, businesses and organizations to make informed choices and take actions to improve their culture, educational, social and financial well-being.
Youth Empowerment
ECDC after-school program encompasses tutoring, educational and cultural enrichment, mentoring, test preps and summer programs for youth at the elementary and middle school levels. Presently 30 plus youth, ages 7-14, attend the program from 2:00pm – 6:00 pm Monday thru Friday. For our high school and college students, we provide opportunities for community service, internship, voluntarism, public speaking and leadership development. For young people coming out of prison and recidivists, ECDC provides training, internship and entrepreneurship opportunities to help them transition and thrive in the local economy.
ECDC’s Community Development Program
Provide information, technical and skills training to other community-based organizations and individuals seeking to create independent projects and initiatives which support further investments in the Rockaway Community.
To ensure that Rockaway residents are fully represented and receive Federal and State benefits, ECDC carries out awareness and encourages community residents to participate in the Decennial Census via phone banking and other community events.
Home Buyer Financial Literacy Program
ECDC in conjunction with our partners provides one-on-one pre-purchase confidential counseling and education to first-time home buyers to ensure access to available resources, for example, down payment, closing cost assistance, accessing other resources and avoiding pitfalls.
Foreclosure Prevention Program
Southeast Queens including the Rockaways has been the epicenter of the foreclosure crisis in the State of New York. ECDC assist in mitigating this crisis by providing mortgage delinquency and foreclosure prevention counseling, referrals and access to other resources to enable community residents keep their homes and/or reduce their financial burdens via loan modifications, state and city programs and grants.
ECDC’s Business Services
This program provide tools, including technical and skills training, to local entrepreneurs to start and grow small businesses; thus, spurring economic development in the Rockaway Community. ECDC does this by making our neighborhoods safer, beautiful and cleaner; providing high-quality services that connect businesses with financial services and navigating government regulations
NYS MWBE Certification
Edgemere Community Development Corporation works with our partners to provide support to local businesses seeking NYS MWBE certification.
Income Tax Help
We assist low-income community residents file their tax returns and take advantage of earned income tax credit (EITC) and other tax credits to put money back into their pockets.
